National Seminar on “GANGA BASIN: Physical and Cultural issues”

Training Programme
A two-week training programme on RS, GNSS and GIS using open source software scheduled for October 1 — 15, 2015 was deferred. The re-scheduled programme took place during February 25 — March 7, 2016. The programme was organised by The Geographical Society of India in collaboration with the Department of Geography, University of Calcutta. A total number of 24 candidates mostly teachers and research scholars of colleges and universities of West Bengal participated in the programme on self-financed basis. Seven resource persons and nine teaching assistants rendered best of their services to make the programme successful. This was evident by the feedbacks received from the participants at the end of the programme. It was coordinated by Prof L. N. Satpati, Assistant Secretary (Administration) of the GSI with the active support offered by the Academic Advisory Committee of the senior members of the Society, constituted for the purpose.
The inaugural programme was attended by the Hony. Secretary, and the valedictory programme by the Hony. President and Hony. Secretary of the Society along with other dignitaries. The Society was benefited with the credit of organizing such an important collaborative training programme for the young faculties and scholars of geosciences. It also added some revenue to the Society’s fund.
